The Japanese holiday of Girls’ Day (sometimes called Doll’s Day) or Hinamatsuri was always celebrated on March 3rd and Boys’ Day or Tango No Sekku was May 5th.
Read MoreIt’s hard to believe that we are halfway through the year. It feels like so much has happened and with all that’s going on, so many things have fallen to the wayside. Back in March, my book baby, Aloha Kitchen turned one!
Read MoreA while back, my friend Tash sent me a photo of a black and white muffin she found in Spain with a message that was something along the lines of, “LET’S MAKE THIS.” So when she got back, we set out to do just that. As it turns out, a good muffin is harder to pin down than one might think. It needs to be moist and tender, but also needs a crunchy top. And then when you add in the variable of not one, but two flavors, it gets a little trickier.
Read MoreI’ve been thinking about mochi brownies for a while now. Mochi. Brownies. YUM.
There’s a spot on the Big Island (Hawai‘i Island) called Nori’s Samin & Snacks that is known for it’s chocolate mochi cake. It’s a cross between a cake and brownie and, well, mochi.
Read MoreThis fall has felt very un-fall to me. I've been tinkering away in the kitchen to make the perfect mac salad, the ultimate pickled mango, and the best maki sushi in town (#cookbooklife) instead of focusing on the stars of autumn, fall produce.
Read MoreHi, it's been a while. I've missed you guys and this space. I'm still here, still alive, and currently back in LA! I've been a little busy, working on this thing called my first cookbook!! Man, nobody told me how much work, scratch that, everyone told me how much work this would be.
Read MoreHiii friends! It was something like 95°f yesterday and if today's anything like that, all I want to do is chill by the pool all day. However, I think I'll be inside blasting the ac and listening to the new Haim record on repeat (it's so good and I am utterly obsessed with their Want You Back video)...
Read MoreIt's that magical time of the year again when everyone gets together to chill out for Billy's popsicle week! Last year, Molly, Lily, and I got together irl to make some coconut rainbow pops. This year, Steph, Michelle, Lil, Moll, and I are #reclaimingpudding.
Read MoreIt's been a little quiet around here and this is why... I'M WRITING A COOKBOOK!!! Can I scream that from the top of Haleakala? Also, is this even real life? The subject is close to my heart; it’ll be all about local Hawaii food, the food of my childhood...
Read MoreIt feels like a lifetime ago, but we celebrated one of my favorite little guy's first birthday this past weekend. Happy Birthday, Wyatt! And I was lucky enough to be in charge of the smash cake! I panicked for about a minute because I realized I didn't...
Read MoreMoses has been out of town all week, so Vienna and I have been laying low. Don't worry, we're ok. We've been eating lots of eggs with rice, edamame, broccoli, oatmeal, and pizza. Kinda sounds weird now that I've said it out loud, but this is comfort food kind of week at its finest.
Read MoreTruth be told, I'm not much of a Valentine's Day kind of gal. Sure, I love chocolates and cake, really any excuse to eat sweets as much as the next person, but Valentine's Day doesn't get my blood pumping. Which is why I'm almost like "who am I right now?"...
Read MoreFestive update: we strung up some lights and added the mini wreath I made with Lily and Adrianna the other night at Rolling Greens to the mix! I've been "polluting" as Moses puts it, the new Google Home Moses got for his birthday from my mom like it's my job.
Read MoreDIY sushi parties are so much fun! I grew up making hand rolls with my family and haven't done it in a while, but this year Moses requested a sushi party for his birthday. So we invited a few friends over, got lots of Japanese beer, sake, and really good fish and did it up.
Read MoreYou probably won't believe me, but it actually rained here in LA yesterday, and it was glorious. I got to put on a jacket, bring an umbrella with me on my walk to the watch Fantastic Beasts with Moses, and it even got cold enough to wish that I grabbed something a little heftier.
Read MoreI had a couple very different posts lined up for this week, but somehow talking traveling to Paris and steam scrambled eggs didn't feel appropriate or important after Tuesday night. I wasn't sure how to talk about anything on Wednesday.
